Dana: "I am working in a Dutch company and I want to understand more. It is going a lot better already since I am learning Dutch at Taalthuis!"Expat Dana (31) from Romania
"I came to the Netherlands almost 5 years ago. Because I was working in an International Company it was not really necessary to learn Dutch. Now I am working in a Dutch company and I want to understand more. It is going a lot better already since I am learning Dutch at Taalthuis! I began learning Dutch all by myself, but that was difficult and I didn’t practice enough. I started looking on the internet, found Taalthuis, looked at the reviews and booked a Dutch Course! First I was looking for a more intensive course, but I am happy that it is only once a week. When you are working it is difficult enough to go to class, and do your homework. This is intensive enough for me now! Being from Romania, Dutch is a difficult language, we do have words in common like defect en ananas, but the grammar is very different. Luckily we have a very patient teacher and she really keeps everybody involved. The words ‘Beschrijven’ en ‘Scheveningen’ are still very hard to pronounce for me."
Skyla: "Taking Dutch classes makes you feel so much more empowered, it really makes you feel more at home."Expat Skyla (39) from the United States
My husband got a job offer in the Netherlands so my children and I followed him here 11 months ago. We always had the idea to raise our kids abroad so this was a great opportunity. The first 8 months were no picnic, the transition from Los Angeles, California to the Netherlands was a hard one. It was really hard and difficult. Taking Dutch classes makes you feel so much more empowered, it really makes you feel more at home. Taalthuis was recommended to me by a friend and I have no regrets at all. I really love the course, the spiral teaching method in the class that you learn some vocabulary, grammar, conversation and something about the Dutch culture! In the course we really speak a lot of Dutch, the teacher is really a great teacher, she keeps the standard high and makes the lessons challenging and she encourages everybody to speak Dutch. Outside the class I am still a bit scared to speak, but that could be me…
Cem: "The lessons at Taalthuis are a good combination of speaking , reading and listening!"Expat Cem (33) from Turkey
"About a year and a half ago I came to the Netherlands as an expat. I am a computer engineer. We speak half English and half Dutch at work, but a lot of Dutch is spoken at the lunch table. I wanted to Learn Dutch because I want to know what they say in the supermarket, in a public place or at lunch. I want to join with a basic conversation. After searching the internet and a good recommendation from a friend I decided to Learn Dutch at Taalthuis! Already I feel a lot of improvement, I understand a lot more when I read something, maybe not all of it, but the context and that really helps. Listening and speaking is more difficult. When people are speaking too fast, it is difficult to follow, and I know my knowledge of words need to improve. And of course I need to practice more! We have a very good teacher, she really likes to help whenever we need help. In the class we get a lot of practical info, the emphasis is really on speaking. The lessons are a good combination of speaking , reading and listening. "
